Bio

I am interested in representation of the house. It’s about the deconstruction of a familiar space. From my drawings, my watercolours and my photos, I recreate a new space. I am interested in what the house represents and also on a personal level, I choose a specific house that I am no longer able to visit. So by painting it, it is like to inhabit this forbidden place. Also it can be linked to the concept of memory.

In Poetic of space Gaston Bachelard sees the house as ‘ »un etat d’ame. »‘ (Bachelard 1957 p77) He talks about the psychologist Francoise Minkowska, who looked into representation of houses made by children. ‘Many children draw a house spontaneously while dreaming over their paper and pencil.’

‘Asking a child to draw his house is asking him to reveal the deepest dream shelter he has found for his happiness.’ (Bachelard 1958 p72)
